A lottery syndicate in Geelong, Australia have claimed that they are the winners of a $16.6 million Australian Powerball win. The claim, however, is suspect of deception and fraud. Read the full details of this scandal below.
The syndicate claimed that they were “conned” out of $16.6 million with the Aussie Powerball lottery game. A man named Gary Baron has had to face three lawsuits for staking claims to the Powerball winnings. The former workmates are fighting amongst themselves over who gets what of the lottery windfall. Gary denies that he took the winning ticket for himself from the syndicate. He claims that he even bought the ticket himself, separately from the syndicate team.
Most of Gary’s former colleagues worked for the Toll Group, which is a courier in North Geelong. It was this syndicate that became known as the “Powerball 14”. They launched a case for an equal share of Gary’s jackpot in February this year. Suspicions about Gary suddenly arose after he quit his job and decided to buy an expensive BMW and the new house. The Powerball 14 group even delivered champagne to Gary Baron’s house.
But as more evidence resurfaces, it seems that the Powerball 14 should actually be called the “Powerball 19” because they have been accused of going ahead with their court action without letting the other five syndicate members know what is going on.
A syndicate member who is suing separately is John
Another member of the syndicate, Brendon Clark, expressed his frustration at not being told about the legal action being taken. “I had no idea about the lawsuit until someone sent me a link to an article about it,” he explained. When reporters asked if he was on good terms with the rest of the members of the team, he replied with, “No, not really.”
This is the latest lottery scandal to have happened aside from the Tipton lottery fraud case.
