We’ve heard many strange stories where the most unexpected things have
The 22-year-old bartender’s name is Lewis Rider. Lewis comes from Sacriston in County Durham. Lewis’ good fortune changed in an instant after he ended up winning the whopping sum of £1 million with the National Lottery. The interesting part of his story comes in when he only won his prize because his dog needed food.
On his way back from getting the dog food, Lewis popped into the Premier Store on Grange Villa, because he had some spare change left over and he used it to buy a Millionaire 777 scratch card. There have been many stories about previous winners who have used their spare change to win their millions.
Earlier this year, two EuroMillions winners by the names of Ivan and Debbie managed to win £1 million after using the spare change they had to buy their lottery tickets. Martin Tompkin, from England, also used his spare change left over from buying frozen chips to buy a £90,000 winning scratch card.
Excited to see if he had won, Lewis checked his ticket on his way home. It took him a couple of second before “the penny dropped that I’d hit the big time.” Lewis immediately called his mother after he realized what had just happened, and asked her to pick him up. He didn’t break the wonderful news to her just yet. Instead, Lewis wanted to wait until his entire family was together before he revealed the news to them. As you can imagine, his mother didn’t believe it.
For the time being, the family has only had low-key celebrations, but that will definitely change when Lewis will be celebrating his 23rd birthday on the 7th of September. Lewis says that “it’s hard to believe that I’m going to be a 23-year-old millionaire.”
As you can imagine, the sudden financial independence of this youngster has gotten him very excited, and he has since already booked a holiday to Lanzarote for him and his brother where he said he wanted to go “wild” for a week.
Lewis’ dreams of travel and adventure don’t stop there, however. He is also craving a round-the-world trip, similar to previous UK Lotto winners Denise and Robert Scarr who were the proud winners of £6.3 million and went on a round-the-world cruise with their winnings.
For his age, though, he seems to have a very wise and steady head on his shoulders and has decided to invest a lot of his winnings. “I’ve been handed a golden opportunity. I mean, how many people my age have a million quid in the bank?” he laughed.
Lewis plans on enjoying himself, but also jumping onto the property ladder as property never depreciates. Investing in property is also exactly what past EuroMillions winners Andrew Perkins Can Yildiz from Essex. According to Lewis, whatever happens, he said he thinks he’s going to be the happiest 23-year-old on the planet and he intends to savor every minute.
