Most lucky lotto players are familiar with this chap, Eddie Tipton. Not long after being convicted for lottery fraud, he was discovered to be tied to even more lottery fraud schemes in the same case. He was convicted in July for fixing a 2010 Hot Lotto draw so that he could walk away with $14.3 million. Further suspicions have now been revealed. Read the full exclusive story here.
His court hearing took place in Iowa last Thursday for the $1.2 million Hot Lotto jackpot he allegedly won in the year 2011. Now, a shocking three more suspicious jackpot wins are linked back to Eddie, a former information security director for the Multi-State Lottery Association.
The jackpot won with the value of $1.2 million was paid out to a man named Kyle Conn from Texas. The fact that it was someone from outside Oklahoma had already raised some suspicions. The court knows that Tipton has deep family roots in Texas, but so far no charges have been placed against Kyle Conn.
Eddie’s newly surfaced case with more charges is the latest in a long line of lottery scams. Recently there was a man from Jacksonville, Florid, who lost $32,000 to lottery fraudsters scamming him. A woman in Indiana also lost thousands to a scammer posing as a MegaMillions lottery official. David Barraclough in the UK was recently convicted and sent to jail for defrauding the Heritage Lottery Fund of £238,000.
Eddie, age 51, was convicted on two accounts of fraud in July after investigators probed further to find that he had installed a self-terminating program on lottery computers to manipulate the results on the 29th of December Hot Lotto draw. He then included an accomplice, by the name of Robert Rhodes and two attorneys, to claim the money for him. His accomplish, Rhodes, is now also facing fraud charges for helping Eddie.
No further revelations have surfaced against Tipton. A $568,990 lottery win by his brother in 2005 has raised suspicions. The computer that picked those numbers was built by Eddie himself. A friend of Tipton’s claimed he was asked to claim the jackpot winnings on Eddie’s behalf with a promised share of the money in return. Another suspicious jackpot win happened in Wisconsin whereby the prize was paid out to a company controlled by Eddie’s accomplice, Rhodes.
Eddie has already received a ten-year sentence in July of this year. Unbelievably, Eddie has been claiming innocence throughout the entire trial in 2011 for the Hot Lotto charges. He is currently free on bond while the state is working on his conviction appeal. Since then, however, more charges are being added to his case relating to his brother’s recent lottery win.
