Perhaps having massive press behind your name isn’t such a great idea after such a massive Powerball win. It might attract the attention of someone you don’t necessarily want meddling with your affairs. As the Powerball jackpot hit $1 billion, the frenzy grew even more. Players were desperate to get as close to the prize as possible, like this inmate.
Winners often face lawsuits from friends, co-workers, and even family members over a big online lotto win. Sadly, it has now also happened to the winning Powerball family of Munford, Tennessee, who won 1/3 of the $1.6 billion jackpot.
The Robinson family is now being sued by Jonathan Lee Riches. He is suing the Multistate Lottery Commission, Powerball, and the Robinson family. His lawsuit is trying to stop the payout of their 1/3 of the jackpot win until Jonathan gets ‘his’ half of the winnings.
The suit is handwritten poorly and difficult to read. It also looks like it wasn’t even drafted in the language of lawyers. The suit, however, seems to be a serious intent, asking for half of the winnings. Jonathan claims that he is the real winner. He was incarcerated for the last several years and claims he’s been in contact with Tiffany Robinson, the daughter of the winners. According to Jonathan, he sent her $20 from his prison trust fund to tell her parents to go out and get lottery tickets with them, otherwise, they couldn’t have afforded to get them.
Jonathan goes on to make even bolder claims that Tiffany was going to marry him and if they won the lottery they would both move to a remote island full of milk and honey. He is very bitter that Tiffany and her parents are spending his rightful half of the Powerball winnings. He is Muslim and claimed that Tiffany was going to convert, too and become his Muslim wife.
Because of such a huge win, the case, of course, got a lot of media coverage and the Robinsons appeared on the Today show, and sharing some ideas on how they will be spending their money. They are now celebrities in their small town of Munford with 6,000 residents. They say they want to help their friends where they can, donate to a children’s hospital, and also to their church.
Tiffany is paying off her student loans and wants to get a horse. The father said that he bought the USA Powerball ticket on account of his wife after she asked him to pick some up. He bought four quick-picks, one for each member of the family. He gave the tickets to his wife and went to take a nap.
His wife was up watching the Powerball results on TV and carefully wrote down the numbers.
The Robinsons will collect roughly $327 in a lump sum option. Life is what it is, and the potential for jealousy has no human limit. Along with tremendous happiness comes stress. Friends and family might want to share the loot. What then?
It happens more often than you think. All the accusations are based on oral agreements with no written proof that they exist. Let’s not forget the lawyer’s fees you will be paying for if a case ever arises against you.
It might be best to keep your anonymity when you win to avoid instances like these. On LuckyLottos.com, we give our winners full anonymity should they choose. We’ll look after you no doubt.
To flood your bank account with millions, play the next Powerball jackpot.
