It always gives us great pleasure to report on the latest winners of lotteries from around the world. This story in particular is about a lucky couple from Brockton and another lottery player from Stoughton who have claimed lottery prizes worth millions of dollars. Read their full stories here.
The first winning pair we are going to share with you go by the names of Peter and Kathleen Mello, who have been anything but “mellow” ever since their wonderful $1 million prize win with the American multi-state lottery, the US Powerball Lotto. Just days before their win, Brian Delagardelle from Iowa claimed his $1 million on the very same lottery. The day after the draw, the Mello’s went straight to the Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Braintree to claim their fabulous prize which was worth a whopping $630,000 after taxes and fees were applied to the prize sum by law.
This lucky couple beat the odds of winning this lovely Powerball prize. And what are the odds of winning? Exactly one in five million. They told lottery officials that they have been saving up for a long time in order to afford to take their two kids to Disney World. Their newfound wealth will now definitely help them with that wish! They are also hoping that they will have enough winnings to invest in a new family home and a new car, too. We wish them all the best!
Peter Mello told lottery officials that he bought the wining Powerball ticket on his way home from visiting his sister’s grave on her birthday. The lucky draw took place that very night, and the next day that he claimed his prize, was his deceased sister’s birthday. Perhaps the win was a blessing from her?
Peter matched the five main numbers on Wednesday the 19th of August, 2015. The only number he missed was the Powerball number which could have made him an instant jackpot winner.
Moving on to another winner in Massachusetts, the lottery winner has already come forward. The winner’s name if Suu Le, and he also received a $1 million lottery top prize after buying a Massachusetts State Lottery $30 Supreme Millions ticket. Mr. Le chose to take the cash lump sum option instead of the annuity. After taxes his prize will amount to $460,000.
The happy winner said that he is planning to spend some of his winnings on paying off his mortgage as well as helping out his family and friends where they need it most. Mr. Le will also be saving some of his winnings in order to secure his retirement for the future.
The two lucky stores that sold these two Powerball winners their winning tickets were C&B Convenience in Brockton, and the other was Cumberland Farms in Stoughton. Each store will receive a reward for selling them. The reward will amount to $10,000 from lottery officials.
